Post late and avoid the rush

Fox-9 reported 2000 attending in St. Paul, as did the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. My guess is more like 6000 to 8000. But what do I know.

  1. You know, I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but Google has been suspect in downplaying or blocking of Conservative-leaning sites from their News Feeds already, so I do wonder.

Now, when you go to Google, or even use the built-in search widget in Firefox with Google, as most people know, you will get context-related text in a drop-down below the search box after you start typing. Now, in today's fast-moving internet, where Google indexing is being updated in less than a day, one would expect that searches for the Tax Day Tea Parties would have been noted in their system (especially when a search for 'tax day tea party' returns over 5,000,000 hits). However, when typing this in, after I got to the 't' in 'tea', the only two items in the drop-down were 'tax day trading' and 'tax day trader'. So I tried 'tax day protest'. When I got to the 'p' in 'protest', the only two entries were 'tax day party' and 'tax day promotions'.

    Very interesting.

  2. Well, this is the same Google that after their motto of "do no harm" agreed to help the Chinese block sites so that they could do business with one of the most oppressive countries in the world.

We have a bunch of social tyrants who thing that they have to decide what is good for us because we are too stupid to take care of ourselves.

My favorite example are the laws banning smoking in restaurants. If I don't want to be in a place that allows smoking I can go somewhere else but the busybodies of the government don't see it that way.

According to them, I am too stupid to find a place that doesn't allow smoking so they have to make sure I am safe wherever I go and so now there are smoking bans all over the damn place.

In general, we expect comments to be relevant to the story, or to a prior comment that is relevant; and we expect some minimal level of civility. Defining that line is inherently subjective, so try to stay clear of insulting remarks. If you respond to a comment that is later deleted, we may take your response with it. Deleting your comment isn't a personal knock on you, so don't take it as such.

We allow a variety of ways for commenters to identify themselves; those who choose not to do so should take extra care. Absent any prior context in which they may be understood, ironic comments may be misinterpreted. Once you've earned a reputation for contributing to a conversation, we are likely to be more tolerant in those gray areas, as we'll understand where you're coming from.
